Bop Mulder living on a houseboat and starting Bed & Breakfast in 2010

from Wikipedia:

In Europe, some of the finest and costliest examples of houseboats can be seen along the canals of Amsterdam, which even has houseboat hotels. Houseboats are very expensive nowadays in Amsterdam because of the limited number of moorings; this expense has reduced the likelihood that the approximately 2,400 families that live on the inner waters of Amsterdam will find themselves confronted by new neighbor boats.

iPhoneclub.nl photo competition: the results

With almost a thousand entries it was not easy for the winners of the iPhone club photo contest to determine. The result is then a few days later than originally thought, but we understand that positive: a bit more time for careful consideration, then working quickly with a few pictures designate, is not it? There are four images chosen by the jury, whose subject matter are very different. The iPhone camera has its limitations, but who can then act takes great pictures.

This explains the jury, consisting of Fred van der Ende and Hans de Kort from, how they came to their decision. The third juror Glyn Evans has withdrawn its request to the jury.

Motivation of the jury:

There was plenty submitted for this contest. With such a small 1,000 entries, the jury his hands full with the assessment of the entries. Best a difficult task because there are no categories for entries were defined so that predetermined criteria are missing. So you’re comparing apples with pears and the other only try to convince that a picture really is not comparable but nevertheless better than the others …

A few things we noticed:

1. We were first surprised by the high quality of most entries. Of course there were the necessary slack snapshots of pets, beer glasses on the table and other funny dialogues between. Photographing subjects with a camera phone just to invite, but on the whole we got the impression that the average iPhone owner a creative person with an eye for detail, light and composition.

2. There were surprisingly low proportion of people sent in pictures. This is remarkable because one would expect a camera properly used at any suitable time pictures of loved ones or friends to make. Of the submitted photographs which were shown to some people was also striking that many of them not looked into the camera. As if the “stolen” moments were.

3. The images were significantly modified by many contributors to the many useful apps for the iPhone available. Photo Gene, and Camera kit Camerabag frequently came over, but it was striking that many raw images just very well kept up. The old law that does not sound beautiful frame work is also needed in modern times still.

4. No surprise was the fact that most subjects were very static in nature. The iPhone is not suitable camera to capture moments of action …

The Winners

To still to come have a balanced approach to our selection of favorites roughly divided into categories: ‘people’, ‘landscapes’,’ stylistic details of architecture “and” striking moments “. It is ultimately the following winners …

iphoneclub-fotowedstrijd-1.jpg

1. “Zenna” of sender “daandraait ‘

With so much people have wanted to see the understated black and white photo of the girl the first prize. This is a beautiful classic image as a snapshot in Tram (or metro?) taken underground. Everything here just right, the look of the girl, the light and atmosphere of the surroundings. Under a typical time for us to capture an iPhone, then upload directly to a memory for the family.

2. ‘Nederland ontwaakt’ from sender ‘wgroenwold’

We have seen many beautiful landscapes and many of them were made during spectacular sunsets. All very nice, but it struck us because we believe that it was only during the early morning sun was created. The quality of the moment, taken from a moving car, is so strong that if you could make an ad. The fact that there is little or nothing to make the image more heavily modified …

3. ‘Up? “ from sender “Medjo ‘

In the category details / architecture “was also very nice pass. This was because of the beautiful color contrast and strong composition. The spiral staircase is really perfect in the framework.

4. “Wheel Barrow break ‘from sender’ Menno Ophelia ‘

The latter price is a picture from the category “striking moments” become. Two people are in a wheelbarrow from the rest of (probably) hard work. The high level view and the perfect distribution to make this a recording that requires a photographic eye. Many people would probably not recognize such a moment.

All winners will have our personal message about the price they have won. As editors, we warmly thank the jurors for the effort they have taken so many pictures to see and evaluate.

All photos submitted are seen in the Flickr iPhone Photo Contest Club Pool. Note that you must be logged in to Flickr all the pictures are. Flickr shows only a subset of non-logged users!
